Description

The park is located across the municipalities of Angra dos Reis, Mangaratiba, Itaguaí and Rio Claro. It is a state protected area of the state of Rio de Janeiro. It covers 38,000 hectares and is an ecological corridor between Parque Nacional da Serra da Bocaina and the Reserva Biológica Federal do Tinguá. The park's name was chosen in memory of the Tupinambá chief, a leader known for uniting Indigenous tribes to fight the Portuguese colonizers. The wildlife is rich, including the puma, ocelot, coati, southern tamandua and many others. There are more than 250 bird species, such as the tropical kingbird, guans, the white-necked hawk and others. The administrative headquarters is in the municipality of Mangaratiba, on Estrada da Cachoeira, in the Sahy neighborhood, where the Visitor Center is located. Highlights include the Cachoeira do Itimirim, the Cachoeira Santa Bárbara, the Cachoeira do Espelho and the Cachoeira Véu da Noiva. Tourists come to the park for the Saí-Rubião and Angra dos Reis-Lídice treks, from which you can see the Baía da Ilha Grande.
