Parque Estadual da Serra do Rola-Moça

Description
Serra do Rola-Moça State Park is one of the most important green areas in Minas Gerais. With 3,941.09 hectares, it is the third largest environmental preservation park in an urban area in Brazil. It is located in the municipalities of Belo Horizonte, Nova Lima, Ibirité, and Brumadinho and was created in 1994. The reserve has several springs that supply the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte, as well as a rich diversity of fauna, including endangered species such as the puma, jaguarundi, maned wolf, ocelot, macuco, and the marsh deer. Situated in the transition zone between the Cerrado and Atlantic Forest, it is rich in ferruginous and high-altitude fields, and the park is home to rare species such as orchids, bromeliads, candeia, jacaranda, cedar, jequitibá, arnica, and the canela-de-ema, which has become its symbol. Recently described by geology, the Ferruginous Field is very rare, found only in Minas Gerais, in the iron quadrilateral, and in Carajás, in the state of Pará. Among the main attractions are the trails and viewpoints, especially the “Morro dos Veados,” which not only offers a panoramic view of the valley but is also a great spot for taking a good selfie. The park also has several trails and springs, such as Lago Azul, which can be visited for Environmental Education purposes, subject to availability.
