Description

The trail leads back to Vila do Abraão along a long dirt road, about 4 km uphill and 4 km downhill. Along the way, you pass the entrance to the trail for the famous and beautiful Pico do Papagaio. It is part of the long-distance trail Volta da Ilha Grande and is section 14 of the official Ilha Grande trail guide.

The Dois Rios Road, although shaded, can be very stuffy. Try to travel this section of the road before 10 AM or after 3 PM.

Route

The journey begins by leaving the historic Vila de Dois Rios. It is about 8 km along a dirt road (the old access to the prison). The Soldier's Pool is a small natural reservoir of cold water, perfect for giving your body a thermal shock right at the start of the ascent. Halfway along the path is the Curva da Morte viewpoint, which offers one of the most beautiful views of Vila de Dois Rios and the open sea. The road is surrounded by bamboo groves and tall trees, providing shade for much of the time.
