Unlike the previous sections that are close to the buffer zone of Sete Cidades, Section 5 begins to approach more open and flat areas that characterize the Piracuruca River basin. The terrain is predominantly compacted and firm soil, with a striking presence of gray stone slabs that emerge from the ground (which justifies the names of destinations in the region such as Malhada das Pedras). The vegetation along the banks features strong carnaúba palms and typical shrubs of the tree-like caatinga, offering a walk with less shade and broader horizons. Entering this section means starting to cross the territory of one of the most historic municipalities in Piauí. The cultural landscape changes, reflecting the architecture of the old farms and the local customs of that region. The final destination village is a strategic and very welcoming stopping point, where the residents are already accustomed to receiving travelers with homemade Piauí cuisine and pot water for resupplying. It is one of the most authentic and visually striking sections on the Piauí side, in São João da Fronteira, serving as the last major stage before the definitive ascent of the Serra da Ibiapaba towards Ceará. There is a view of the wall of the Serra da Ibiapaba, and one walks parallel to the base of the mountain, observing the sandstone cliffs that divide the states of Piauí and Ceará. There are archaeological sites along the route.
