Description

The longest cycling section of the Volta das Águas de Rio Claro is also the most beautiful. Connecting Macundu to Fazenda da Grama via local roads, the trail passes by the Curral and Reservoir Lookouts, which offer a stunning view from above of the Ribeirão das Lajes Reservoir. Upon reaching Fazenda da Grama, its ruins and the pond complete the attractions of this section.

Tips

For most of the route, there are no commercial establishments to support cyclists. There are two urban sections — in Passa Três and at Fazenda da Grama — where food and beverage services are available. One section of dirt road, connecting Passa Três to Fazenda da Grama, includes numerous gates and crossings through rural properties. Along this stretch, it is common to encounter free-roaming animals such as cattle and dogs.

Route

Access to São Roque from Macundu follows the same main road used to reach the village. Heading from São Roque toward Passa Três, the route features a steady incline in both directions; however, the gradient is gentle and comfortable. As you approach Passa Três, the trail becomes easy, with few intersections and no significant ascents or descents. This segment partially overlaps with the route of the Southern Fluminense Cycling Circuit. The town center is a strategic stop for cyclists to stock up on food and drinks before continuing to the next service point. The ascent from Passa Três toward Fazenda da Grama passes through a closed trail, offering a distinct riding experience compared to other validated routes in Rio Claro. Although it is an uphill section, it presents only a moderate level of technical difficulty. The section ends at the entrance to Passa Três, where paved roads and increased motor vehicle traffic begin. The final stretch at Fazenda da Grama is easy, but features many intersections, which can lead visitors off course. This is another strategic location for cyclists to restock on food and beverages before reaching the next service area.
