Description

The second section of the bike touring route of the Return of the Waters of Rio Claro connects the district of Lídice to the village of Macundu, mostly passing through rural dirt roads shared with vehicles, through the landscapes of the Sertão da Itaoca.

Tips

Do not cycle along RJ-149. The route follows mainly rural roads with low vehicle traffic, including initial stretches on asphalt and a segment that deviates toward the RJ-149 highway. However, this highway is currently not suitable for bicycle traffic for tourism or leisure purposes.

Route

The route from Lídice to Várzea is well-known among local cyclists. The Itaoca climb stands out as the steepest ascent to be tackled along this segment. The stretch of RJ-149 between Várzea and São Roque is in the worst condition, and given its current state, it is not recommended for cycling tourism. The lack of cycling infrastructure and traffic calming measures makes this section dangerous, and it is advised that cyclists reach the Macundu exit at São Roque by car. The final part of the route is the main connection from Macundu to the districts of Lídice, Rio Claro, and Passa Três. It is recognized by local cyclists as a viable passage through São Roque that avoids private properties and highways with high-speed traffic.
