Route

The first section starts in downtown Rio Claro, at Fagundes Varela Square, and follows Presidente Vargas Street and São João Marcos Street until a left turn towards Pedra do Bispo. The main route follows a dirt road shared with vehicles, crossing gates on private properties. This initial stretch is about 4.0 km long, exposed to the sun, and has a steady incline. At a certain point, the trail enters the forest, providing shade during the climb. In this section, it is still necessary to cross some gates. Upon exiting the forested area, an opening to the left, marked by a fence, indicates access to the side trail B – Pedra do Bispo. The main route continues with a steady descent to Sítio Pedra do Bispo (also known as Sítio da Gigi). From there, the climb up the Serra dos Coelhos begins, heading towards Sertão dos Hortelãs. This part of the trail features alternating ascents and descents, crossing ridgelines and stretches with eroded soil. Vegetation is present along much of the path, offering shade in some areas. Along the way, there is a hydration point, natural viewpoints, and a large rock used as a resting spot with a beautiful view of the mountains, valley, and the rock formations known as Pedras do Bispo and Pedra da Anta. The walk to Mr. Célio’s house — which serves as a stop for snacks, hydration, and rest — takes about 1 hour from Sítio da Gigi. After this stop, the hike continues along an uphill dirt road until reaching a place known as Guaraná Quente. Shortly before arriving there, it's possible to access the side trail that leads to Cachoeira da Prata (Silver Waterfall).
