Description

This is a long and strenuous crossing that requires physical preparation and experience in long-distance trails and adverse situations in remote areas. Overnight stays/camping should only be done in designated areas. The hike is a complete connection with the power of nature, the unique beauty of the cerrado, and the impressive Veadeiros region. The crossing lasts about 10 days, depending on the hiker's disposition and experience.

Tips

This traverse is still being implemented. There are sections without a fully cleared trail and with little signage. In some places, the vegetation may be overgrown. Not recommended for beginners, people who are not physically fit, or people without experience on long-distance trails, as it requires self-sufficiency to hike in remote areas. Rocky terrain, with steep spots and a lot of sun exposure. There are entrance fees for some attractions and for the Parque Nacional da Chapada dos Veadeiros. The use of GPS and similar geolocation systems, or hiring guides/local guides, is strongly recommended.

Route

The traverse starts at the Eco pousada Rebendoleng, 3 km from the town center of São João d'Aliança. The adventure is divided into nine distinct sections. Section 1- Pousada x Complexo de Veadeiros, 14 km, with water available only at the start and end of the trail. Section 2 - Complexo de Veadeiros x Cachoeira das Andorinhas, 13.6 km, with water points at the start, middle, and end of the section. The last part of this section has an intermittent trail and dense vegetation, so it is important to be skilled with navigation equipment or to be accompanied by a local guide. Section 3 - Cachoeira das Andorinhas x Cachoeira São Mateus, 9 km, with water only at the start and end of the section. The descent to São Mateus is difficult and optional; it is possible to continue along the local road to GO 236 and go to the Fazenda Posse do Buriti. Section 4 - Cachoeira do São Mateus x Fazenda Posse do Buriti, 12.2 km (for those who chose to go to São Mateus in the previous section). Section 5 - Fazenda Posse do Buriti x Bocaina do Farias, 22.1 km. A long section with few water points along the way, especially in the dry season. Tip: set aside a full day to visit Bocaina do Farias and rest. Section 6 - Bocaina do Farias x Reserva di Morena, 23.7 km. In the dry season, there are no hydration points. On this section, you cross many crop fields, and sun exposure is high. Section 7 - Pousada di Morena x Cachoeira da Coca-Cola, 20.8 km. There are two hydration points along the way (Fazenda São Jorge and Rio Macaco), in addition to the start and end points of the trail. Overnight on this section is wild camping, with no water in the dry season. You can walk another 5 km to the Reserva Beija Flor, where there is lodging and food at the Fazenda Macaco. Section 8 - Cachoeira Coca Cola x Sertão Zen, 11.7 km. Water points at the start, 5 km after the start, and at the end of the trail. Camping is wild, and there is water at the site, which is stunning. Section 9 - Sertão Zen x Alto Paraíso de Goiás, 12.3 km. Water points at the start and end of the section. From the Sertão Zen, you can reach Alto Paraíso via the Trilha Uimiri - more difficult and described in a separate trail here in the app. Search for Uimiri.
