Description

The Marine Extractive Reserve (RESEX) Araí-Peroba, located in the municipality of Augusto Corrêa, spans approximately 62,000 hectares. Around it are about 40 agro-fishing communities, whose main economic activities are family farming and artisanal fishing. Among these, the traditional communities of Perimirim and Nova Olinda stand out. Perimirim is a fishing village facing the bay of the Urumajó River, with an extensive shoreline undergoing urbanization, providing excellent views and bird-watching opportunities. It is an ideal spot for enjoying the late afternoon and is frequently used by local families. One of the community's traditional events is the regatta of artisanal fishermen, which takes place in September during the windy season in the region. Nova Olinda, known as the land of oysters, is the most populous village in the municipality of Augusto Corrêa, with about 1,000 families. It is located approximately 40 km from the municipality's center, accessible via BR 308 (Transoceanic Highway) and then PA-462 (Patal-Araí Highway), both paved roads passing through several agro-fishing communities, bridges, and rivers. The community is responsible for producing a large portion of the state's oysters and is significant for regional experience tourism. The Oyster Farm is located on the Emboraí Velho River, about 4 km from the center of Nova Olinda village, accessible by small boats and according to the tide schedule. Visits to the oyster farm are made by reservation with the oyster farmers. In addition to visiting the oyster farm, you can visit Mr. Miguel's site for fresh coconut water or Mrs. Paulina's restaurant to enjoy açaí with shrimp and try Nova Olinda's washed flour, as well as the famous oyster pizza. It is also possible to visit some of the region's islands, such as Felipa Island, to observe large bird groups, or Ilha do Meio, to talk with local fishermen about the ufological event, the Elisabeth Berger case. Additionally, you can take boat trips along the estuary and visit Camaraçu Beach, located at the tip of a peninsula facing the ocean, where specific wind and tide conditions create some of the best surfing waves on the Pará coast.
