Description
The São José Environmental Protection Area was created by municipal law in 1991, with the aim of preserving the fauna and the relief of the Nova Cintra and São Judas Tadeu hills, as well as the important architectural ensembles of Pedro Américo, Tavares Bastos streets, and the Residential Complex of Parque Guinle. Its name pays tribute to the São José Market, a gathering place for residents interested in defending the cultural and environmental heritage of Laranjeiras. Neighboring the APA are the Laranjeiras Palace and Parque Guinle, both listed by the State Institute of Artistic and Cultural Heritage in 1993.
