Description
Photo: Transmantiqueira Trail The Transmantiqueira Trail (TMTQ) is a long-distance trail (LDT) approximately 1000 km long in the Serra da Mantiqueira. It crosses over 40 municipalities in the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Minas Gerais, and 34 Conservation Units, favoring passages through already established trails and visiting the maximum number of attractions along its course. It aims to integrate the Brazilian System of Long-Distance Trails (LDT) of ICMBio, adhering to national and international experiences of systems like this. The trail plays a strategic role by prioritizing environmental education in promoting contact with the natural environment, as well as seeking alternatives for society's relationships with nature and its individuals, through the discovery of new lifestyles, gastronomy, beliefs and values, architecture, etc. The TMTQ will contribute to environmental conservation, the integration of humans and the environment in a lived interrelationship with the ecosystem, with local customs and history through the socioeconomic development of communities and their surroundings, as well as organized and sustainable tourism in the Mantiqueira.
