The Arboretum collections began to be formed in the 1980s and have more than 500 planted species, with trees native and exotic to Brazil, including brazilwood, aroeira and different species of angico and ipê. According to a pertinent methodology considering spacing and groups of trees, the main objective of the collections is to monitor the behavior of the species under the same light conditions, evaluating their crowns, roots, health and their phenology (flowers and fruits). The Palmetto is a collection of native and exotic palm trees, which includes around 144 species. In addition to the cultural and landscape harmonization aspects, the objective is to characterize the performance of each species in local conditions and strengthen the seed bank for propagation. Palm trees are among the oldest plants on the planet and their origin dates back more than 120 million years, being plants characteristic of the tropical flora. These spaces provide contemplation, environmental education, research, teaching material, obtaining propagules (e.g. seeds) and animal observation.
